If you are uploading a file and you get the error message: "company contains employees without an external id" this is because you have other employees who are already in your Smart Pension account but do not have an external ID. An external ID is your reference for an employee, typically this is your payroll reference.

Go to your list of employees in your Smart Pension account and update any employees that do not yet have an external ID. Once complete you can upload the same file.
