We use a secure authentication process to establish an API link with your payroll software, but some payroll providers will still ask for an API key for validation.

Where to find a Company ID and API Key 

If you're an employer

  1. Sign in to your employer account and click Account in the top right
  2. Click Profile details
  3. Click Profile settings
  4. You'll find your Company ID and API Key in the API details section on the right hand side

If you're an adviser

To find the Company ID of a company you manage:

  1. Sign in to your adviser account
  2. Click View clients
  3. The Company ID for each company is in the ID column of the table

To find an API key for yourself or an adviser account user:

  1. Sign in to your adviser account
  2. Click Manage users
  3. Click on the pencil icon to view the information for a user
  4. You'll find the API key at the bottom of the page

To find the API key of a company you manage:

  1. Sign in to the company you need the key for (From your adviser account, go to View clients, click the Actions button for the company,  then click Sign in to company).
  2. From the Menu, choose Company details
  3. Click Users and select the View button for a user
  4. Click Profile settings. You'll find the API details section on the right hand side

Once you've entered your Company ID and API key, your payroll software may ask you to sign in to your Smart Pension account. Make sure you've chosen the right type of account from the dropdown menu, depending on whether you're an adviser or employer.
